Urbanisme - A City From Bank To Bank • presentation ContactsJean-Christophe BallotPresentation • A City From Bank To Bank directed by Ballot Jean-Christophe ![]() This film is the second pilot of the serie Urbanisme. It interrogates the traffic flow’s problematic of a city when it is crossed by a river, through the particular case of Orléans’ town and the Europe’s Bridge designed by the architect Calatrava. The contruction of a new bridge in a town is a major event in the evolution of a city. It is an important element for the traffic, but also a cultural gesture. When does the contruction of a new bridge become necessary? Which place has to be chosen for its settlement? Which developments must be made to create a dialog between the neighbourhood and the bridge? What is the urban gesture to be chosen? And what is its symbolic significance? Beyond the question of the traffic flow from one riverside to another, a bridge, thanks to the idea of an architect can also become a sign… Then it has a symbolic function, it contributes to the image of the city.
