Urbanisme - Marseilles, Along A Course • presentation
The first film in this collection is dedicated to Marseilles, in particular to the part of the Operation Euroméditerranée which concerns the strip of harbor stretching from Fort Saint-Jean to Arenc. The film is comprised of three parts: First, it draws attention to the city/port division. The second part goes back in time to help us understand the stakes involved in "recentering" Marseilles to the north. After this historical overview, the film more thoroughly goes over the operations currently being undertaken in order to create new relationships between the city and the port. The film shows how treatment of space on the outskirts of the port is comparable to that of many other such peripheral areas, and that urban planning for "rehabilitating" and "repairing" these zones is necessary before any urban projects with real cultural objectives can be envisioned. On another level, the film is also a reflection on ideas about how the city is "used" and about the "quality" of space.
