My Life and Times with Antonin Artaud
May 1946: After nine years of internment in the asylum at Rodez, Antonin Artaud is finally released and returns to Paris and his circle of friends. It is a time of revelation for Jacques Prevel. The young poet will follow Artaud in his travels to and from the nursing home at Ivry and Saint Germain-des-Près, and in the same quests for poetry, drugs, and the absolute. Prevel becomes the disciple, drug connection, and companion of this man of genius, whose story he tells until his death two years later. In post-war Paris, Prevel sometimes lives in poverty and suffering, dividing his life between two women, Rolande and Jany. At the same time he also becomes deeply and eternally attached to Antonin Artaud, who is his only friend.
